FAQ:

  • What inspired this?

    • This was inspired by Dracula Daily and Les Mis Letters. I enjoyed the experience of reading both of those so much that I wanted to do the same for War and Peace. I found a few online communities doing readalongs, but not one that would come straight to my inbox, so I decided to start one!

  • When is this going?

    • One chapter every day of 2025, beginning on January 1st and ending on New Year’s Eve! If I get enough interest, this may become an annual project.

  • What translation are you using?

    • Aylmer and Louise Maude’s translation, provided by Project Gutenberg. The full translation is here and more information on Project Gutenberg (which provides free ebooks) can be found on their website.

  • Is that legal?

    • Yes! The book is in the public domain, and Project Gutenberg has also specified that you don’t need permission to use text they provide. Go show them some love! (They run on volunteers or you can donate to them here.)

  • What if I join after you start?

    • You’ll get the chapter scheduled for that day. You can always catch up on our website or anywhere else you can read War and Peace. We’re using the unabridged version but abridged versions exist for a reason.

  • Is there a Discord server where we can chat?

  • Who are you?

    • My name is Emmett! I’m just a dude who likes books. You can find my thoughts on the other things I read at my personal substack and check out my own original novel.
